1. Sergio
Mattarella is new President of Italy

i. Sergio Mattarella sworn in as the new
President of Italy. He succeeds Giorgio Napolitano.

ii. He became 12th president of the country since
Italy  became a Republic after World War
II.

iii. The presidency in Italy is a largely
ceremonial role but the holder of the office can play a significant role at
times of political crises, which have been a regular feature of Italian life
for the last half century.

2. RBI reduced
SLR by 50 basis points, keeps key rates unchanged

i. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) keep interest
rates (Repo Rate) unchanged but reduced Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) by 50
basis points to 21.5% from 22% in its sixth bi-monthly policy review.

ii. The Reserve Bank left interest rate unchanged
saying there was no substantial development on inflation or fiscal fronts to
warrant a fresh reduction.

iii. In order to create space for banks to expand
credit, the SLR is being reduced from 22.0 per cent of NDTL to 21.5 per cent.
Banks should use this headroom to increase their lending to productive sectors
on competitive terms so as to support investment and growth.

Reverse Repo Rate – 6.75% (unchanged)

Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) – 4%

Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) – 21.5%

MSF Rate – 8.75% (unchanged)

3. Krishna
Murari Kishan passed away

i. Veteran Photo journalist Krishna Murari
Kishan passed away due to multi-organ failure. He was 65 years old.

ii. He is survived by two
sons and three daughters.

iii. Krishna Murari Kishan had won praise for
communal riots coverage in Jamshedpur in 1978 and in Bhagalpur in 1989.

4. Madhya
Pradesh won national award for excellent work in MGNREGA

i. Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the 10th
national award for excellent work in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act-MGNREGA.

ii. This award has been given to Madhya Pradesh
for convergence of MGNREGA and other schemes for construction of permanent
assets and for excellent work in providing opportunities for earning permanent
income.

iii. Madhya Pradesh is at the top in
construction of permanent assets through MGNREGA convergence in the country.

iv. 74 percent construction of permanent assets
has been done through MGNREGA in the state. As many as 179 crore 11 lakh
mandays of employment have been created. Out of these, 77 crore 36 lakh mandays
of employment have been provided to female labourers.

v. Union Rural Development Minister Virendra
Singh presented the award to state’s Panchayats and Rural Development Minister
Gopal Bhargava at the MGNREGA summit held in New Delhi yesterday.

5. Petrol price
cut by Rs 2.42 per litre; Diesel by Rs 2.25 per litre

i. Oil marketing companies have slashed petrol
price price by Rs 2.42 paise per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 paise per litre.
The new rates will come into effect from midnight tonight.

6. Pakistan
successfully test-fired Ra’ad

i. Pakistan successfully test-fired a new
indigenously developed cruise missile Ra’ad
.

ii. With the range of 350 km, it is capable of
delivering nuclear and conventional warheads up to, bringing many Indian cities
under its range.

iii. The Ra’ad is an Urdu word which means
“Thunder”.

iv. It is an Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM)
developed by Pakistan and operational with the Pakistan Air Force.
