JEE Main & Advanced – Examination Pattern
The annual JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is the stepping stone to a career in engineering for almost 15 lakh students, making it one of the most important competitive examinations in India. Let us therefore understand the nature and pattern of this examination.
JEE Main Examination pattern
The JEE Main comprises two tests – Paper I, which is meant for candidates who wish to pursue B. E. or B. Tech and Paper II, which is meant for candidates who wish to pursue B. Arch. or B. Planning (at institutes other than IITs). Candidates can choose to appear for either Paper I only or Paper II only or both Paper I and II. Do note that in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced, candidates must appear for Paper I and should secure a rank among the top one and a half lakh candidates (approximately) who appear for this examination.
Candidates can appear for Paper I either in pen and paper based format or in online format. Paper I, in pen and paper based format, would be conducted on April 4, 2015 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. In online format, Paper I would be conducted on 10th and on 11th April, 2015. The exam would be conducted in two shifts – 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm – on both these dates.
Paper II (for candidates who wish to pursue B. Arch. or B. Planning at institutes other than IITs) is available only in pen and paper based format. This paper would be conducted on April 4, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Paper I would consist of objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This paper would give equal weight to each of these three subjects. All questions would have equal marks allotted to them. For each correct answer, candidates would get 4 marks while one mark would be deducted for each incorrect answer. Each of the questions would have four options only, one of which would be the correct answer.
Paper II would consist of three parts. Part I would comprise an objective type test in Mathematics while Part II would comprise an objective type Aptitude test. Part III would comprise a Drawing Test.
JEE Advanced Examination Pattern
Candidates who secure a rank among the top one and a half lakh aspirants (approximately) in the JEE Main 2015 would be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2015. The JEE Advanced 2015 would comprise two different papers. Both of these papers would be conducted in pen and paper based format only. While Paper I would be conducted on May 24, 2015 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, Paper II would be conducted on May 24, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Paper I and Paper II would have objective type and numerical type questions. Both of these papers would have three separate sections – one each on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Incorrect answers to some of these questions would fetch negative marks.
This then is the pattern of the JEE Main and Advanced Examination 2015. Do visit http://jeemain.nic.in/webinfo/welcome.aspx or http://jeeadv.iitd.ac.in/ for further details.
