Students injured, convocation ceremony delayed as stage crashes at IIM-I
A wooden structure built specially for the IIM Indore convocation ceremony collapsed hours before the event. The crash injured more than 20 students and delayed the ceremony as well.
Apparently, the wooden stage which was built in the form of steps was being used by students to click group photographs. They were also rehearsing for the convocation ceremony to be held later in the day.
Parents of many of the students were also in the complex when the stage gave way. Students, were however rushed to various hospitals in quick time.
According to a spokesman from IIM-I, while the ceremony was slightly delayed, there were no untoward incidents later.
From the 20 students, five could not make it for the convocation event and of the five, one has suffered injuries on his spine. The spokesman said that IIM-I has already constituted a committee to check what went wrong. “This committee will have to submit its report within two weeks,” he added.
When asked whether the huge batch of 450 students led to the crash, the spokesman said unlikely as the batch strength was the same last year.
