RBI Grade B Preparation Tips for Phase 1 & 2
Every year the RBI conducts the RBI grade B exam to select eligible candidates for the position of Grade B officer in its various branches all across the country. As per the RBI Grade B exam pattern, preliminary exam and mains exam has a separate cut-off that candidates must clear in order to appear for the next round. For the mains exam, the candidates are suggested to score as high as possible since it is considered for final merit listing.
The phase 1 exam consists of a total of 200 marks in the time duration of 120 minutes. The paper consists of general awareness, English language, quantitative aptitude, and reasoning. The exam will be online with multiple choice questions. The candidates have to clear the phase 1 to be eligible for the next round.
The phase 2 exam consists of three papers. The paper consists of economic and social issues, English-writing skills, and optional subjects. The optional subjects are Finance and management, economics, and statistics.
Preparation tips subject-wise:
- The English language is one of the easiest one to crack. Learn the basic skills in grammar by developing the reading habit. The reading habit will improve the vocabulary also. The candidates are asked to go through the previous year question paper.
- In the quantitative aptitude, the questions will be based on arithmetic, data interpretation, and simplification. The candidates can learn the shortcut to solve these problems.
- Reasoning section is one of the important sections and attempts the section very carefully. The questions can be tricky and require a lot of practice to do well in the exam.
- The candidates who are up to date in the current affairs and news of everyday aspects can score well. The candidates are advised to go through at least 6 months of current events. They are asked to read the newspapers, magazines to know well about the general awareness.

General preparation tips:
- Make a time-table for all the subjects separately and follow that.
- Focus on the concepts rather than learning technique. Understanding the concept would make a clear way and also can handle the questions carefully.
- Revise the topics studied.
- Mock test will help the candidates to improve the speed and accuracy.
- Mock test will also boost confidence and help the candidates to get through the exam well.
- Take a look at the previous year question paper to know the exam pattern, difficulty-level, marking scheme, topic-wise distribution of questions etc.
Preparation tips during the exam:
- If anyone question the candidate finds is difficult then they must not waste the time solving that particular question. Instead, the candidate can move to the next question and if time permits then they can come back to the question left.
- Avoid guess works.
- The candidates have to clear the sectional cut-off of each section and also the overall cut-off. So if the particular section is a bit challenging attempt the minimum number of questions that are necessary to clear the sectional cut-off of the particular section.
- Sometimes, the questions may be tricky and the candidates are advised to read the question carefully and then answer them.
