NEET PG 2017 counselling registration and choice locking begins, here is what you need to know
Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has started the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Post Graduate (PG) online counselling registration and choice locking for 50% AIQ (All India Quota) MD/MS/Diploma medical seats across the country. The 50% All India Quota seats are to be filled by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) through two rounds of counselling on the basis of NEET PG merit list. Registration and choice locking process will remain active until March 19.
Candidates must fill up the registration form on the official website www.mcc.nic.in and fill their choices of stream and seats. Those candidates who are not logged in to the website, need to first log in by providing their stream and application details. The process of seat allotment for the 50% AIQ seats will begin on March 21 and the results will be published on March 23. The seat matrix for MD/MS/Diploma in different medical institutes across the country has been provided on the website.
Although 50% AIQ seats will be filled by DGHS, the rest of the MD/MS and diploma seats will be filled by the respective state government medical authorities based on NEET scores. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently came up with a notification making it necessary for UG and PG counselling to come under the purview of the state. Irrespective of the fact that it is a private/deemed or public institute, admissions to the rest of the seats will be conducted based on centralised counselling conducted by the respective state medical authorities.
Due to streamlining of the counselling procedure, candidates will be able to get a chance to get evaluated on the basis of their NEET scores for every possible institute without even applying for individual institutes. This move is expected to bring transparency in the overall admission process and would help ending the apathy of medical students associated with charging of high capitation fees by various private/deemed colleges in the name of medical admission.
