5 Things NEET UG aspirants need to keep in mind before making changes in their application forms

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a window in which NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) UG 2017 aspirants will be able to make changes in their application forms. The One Time Correction window, which opened today, will remain accessible till March 12, 2016. While candidates can make changes in some selected categories, many were confused with counselling norms and payment options. The CBSE has issued an answer list to the frequently asked questions by the NEET aspirants, ever since the application process begun on January 31.

PaGaLGuY has picked up the 5 most important points that you need to keep in mind before making the changes in your application form:

  • Aadhaar Card data related changes: Many candidates complained about the fact that their personal data, i.e., their name and date of birth are not in tandem. Even, we at PaGaLGuY received same queries from concerned applicants this year. In such a case, candidates can put up their Aadhaar Enrolment Number (17-digit number mentioned in the card), by selecting the ‘Selection Identification Type’ box to ‘Aadhaar Enrolment Number’ from ‘Aadhaar Number’.
  • Changing your category: There are four broad categories of students (ST, SC, OBC, UR), choices of which are available on the application form while applying. Those candidates who have mistakenly put their category as General, can change it to reserved and vice versa. But, the candidates changing it to reserved category from General need to make sure that they have proper documentation to support their claim at later stages.
  • Applying and appearing for the exam: There is a sizable number of aspirants who study outside of their native places and were confused as to what they should put as their ‘State of Eligibility’ in the application forms. If a resident is from Patna and is studying in Delhi for the last 10 years, the decision is up to the candidates as to what state they want to appear from. These candidates can apply both for Bihar and Delhi counselling rounds for 85% quota seats. Depending on the eligibility criteria laid by the state medical admission authorities, they will be given admission to a particular state.
  • Eligibility norms for different states: There are varied norms for state quotas in different states, applicable to medical students when it comes to MBBS/BDS admission across the country. Although, NEET has been ordered by the Supreme Court to be the sole entrance examination to select medical candidates for the courses, different states in the country follow different reservation policies. Some states provide certain reservation to girls and some domicile reservation for the 85% state medical seats. In such a case, the decision taken by the state medical authority is binding. It is advisable to check with the respective state policies before submitting the application form.
