Executive placements at DOMS, IIT Roorkee: Avg salary drops by 12 percent

Executive placements have successfully concluded at the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee with the average salary figure dropping by 12 percent to Rs 6.48 lakhs per annum. The highest annual salary secured by graduates of the Executive MBA program was Rs 9.5 lakhs as compared to Rs 10.5 lakhs for the previous year. A total of 22 companies participated in recruitments at the institute.

Pre Placement offers were made to students from companies like SBI Capital Markets, Aranca, Apollo Health & Lifestyle, Genpact and profiles on offer included Project advisory, Business Analyst and Business Development.

Nine percent of the students opted to take up roles in consulting and analytics. Consulting companies participating in the placement process included Frost & Sullivan, Feedback Consulting, TCS etc. The Placement process witnessed participation from top companies in the high end analytics space viz. Market Rx (a Cognizant company) and Empower Research.

Sales and Marketing and IT were the two most popular sectors with 28 percent and 21 percent of the students opting to take up jobs in these sectors. A total of 19 percent of the students opted for Banking and Finance job offers. Corporate banks driven this year by major public sector banks like IDBI, Bank of Baroda, Oriental Bank of Commerce, SIDBI and Andhra Bank offered profiles in both Finance and Marketing. Marketing Profiles were offered by Bajaj Auto Ltd., Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd., CES India, in addition to the banks. BHEL and Bajaj Auto Ltd. offered both domestic and international marketing profiles to the students. The IT space was represented by TCS and Ambujex Technologies which offered profiles like SAP consulting, Business Analyst and Business Development.

16 percent of the students opted for job offers in Operations while two percent took up HR jobs. Strategy job offers made up five percent of the profiles accepted. Operations profiles included offers from BHEL, Idea Cellular, TATA Power and Ion Exchange.

This placement season saw participation of companies from a wide spectrum of industries ranging from traditional banking and consulting to fast growing industries like infrastructure and analytics. An indicative list of the companies participating for the first time include BHEL, Frost and Sullivan Consulting, Tata Power, Feedback Consulting, First Global, Ion Exchange, IDBI, Andhra Bank, SIDBI and CES India.

The new profiles that were offered included International Operations, International Marketing and Corporate Strategy. Companies like marketRX, Bajaj Auto, TCS reposed their faith in the capabilities of the students with their continued relationship.
