UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) 2016 question paper analysis
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted the Civil Services (preliminary) examination on August 7, 2016, consisting of two papers. Out of a total of 11 lakh aspirants who registered to take the exams this year, only around 6 lakh candidates took the exams (55% attendance).

Conventional subjects like Indian Polity, Indian History and Geography had very less questions this year, even when compared to the previous year.
About 50 questions were asked on contemporary issues. Even in the science and technology section, the focus was on current topics related to the subject. The overall difficulty of the paper was low. The current paper pattern is a clear indication for candidates to focus more on contemporary issues for their UPSC IAS Mains 2016 exam.
On the basis of the same, the expected cut-off can be as follows:
General/Open Category: 105 – 110
OBC: 100 – 105
SC: 95 – 100
ST: 90 – 95
