IIIT-H incubated app receives seed funding from Silicon Valley

An app named Bucker founded by students of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad has acquired seed funding of undisclosed amount from angel investors from Silicon Valley and 50k Ventures.

Bucker, incubated at IIIT Hyderabad by an alumni, was developed with an aim to integrate information from the best apps on mobile devices. The other finances of the Bucker include Munish Jauhar of IAN, Pulkit Jain of Vedantu and Rohit Narang of Singapore based 314 Capital. Talking about their latest partnerships, Ravneet Singh, one of the co-founders, said, “The latest infusion of funds will be directed towards enhancing the payroll of our growing team, as employees from Flipkart and Microsoft have showed interest in joining our team. The company also plans to venture into the e-commerce and entertainment strata by expanding the user base and introducing some cooler app features.”

The app serves as an assisting intermediate between users and existing apps by helping the customers avail uncomplicated services such as ordering food, booking cabs or getting mobile (prepaid) recharges. It compares the services and prices offered by all major players providing cab services, taking into account the surge and the coupons. It then, in the form of a pop-_up provides all this information.

The journey for these young entrepreneurs started when they won an opportunity to represent India in San Fransisco pitching their business idea to over 150 industry leaders and VCs on the Global Demo Day. They received wide appreciation from Telangana Chief Minister, KCR Garu, who also funded their travel to Silicon Valley. Vennela Miryala, another co-founder of Bucker, said, “On-demand services have given consumers the ability of choice as per their requirement and convenience. We aim to expand this zone of comfort by providing all information required.”

Officially launched in November 2015, the app has crossed approximately 10,000 users. With growing popularity of this app, Bucker’s team size has tripled in the last 2 months and is expected to grow further.
