1. India – UK sign civil nuclear agreement in Britain
(i) India recently signed a civil nuclear deal along with other deals worth 9 billion pounds with United Kingdom(U.K.).
(ii) The deal was signed on the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three day visit to United Kingdom.
(iii) In an address Prime Minister of UK, David Cameron announced that UK supports India’s bid for permanent membership of UN Security Council. He said that the progress of India is the destiny of one sixth of humanity.
2. SBI and Emirates bank join hands for easier remittances for NRI’s
(i) As per the recent development, State Bank of India (SBI) and a leading UAE based bank has announced a deal with the view to help Non- Resident’s Indian (NRI) customers in the UAE to transact their remittance with ease.
(ii) Emirates NBD has decided to include SBI in the partner bank network in India for the DirectRemit 60 seconds remittance platform.
(iii) This deal is expected to allow NRI customers who transact with SBO to avail easy and fast remittances services in UAE.
3. IHFL acquires 40 per cent stake in OakNorth Bank of U.K.
(i) Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. (IHFL) recently acquired a 40 per cent stake in OakNorth Bank of the U.K. for $ 100 million, thus making it the largest shareholder of the bank.
(ii) As per the company’s statement, The investment has been identified and approved by the Strategic Investment Committee for Liability Franchise Development, headed by K. C. Chakrabarty, an independent director on the board and ex-Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, specially constituted by the Board for the purpose of creating a practical roadmap to a deposit-taking franchise.
(iii) This acquisition symbolises Sameer Gehlaut led IHFL’s foray into deposit taking franchise in the U.K.
4. Former RBI Deputy Governor Subir Gokaran appointed as Executive Director at IMF
(i) On November 12, former Deputy Governor Subir Gokarna was appointed as the Executive Director on the board of the International Monetary Find(IMF).
(ii) Gokarna, who’s an economist’s, name was cleared by the appointments committee of cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
(iii) Gokaran will represent India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan on the Washington-based IMF’s Executive Board and he will replace Rakesh Mohan.
5. Liberian teen Abraham Keita wins the International Children’s Peace Prize 2015 Award
(i) Recently, Liberian teenager Abraham Keita was awarded with the prestigious InternationalChildren’s Peace Prize 2015. Keith received this award from Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee.
(ii) He was conferred with this award in recognition for his peaceful yet effective fight for justice for children who have been victims of sexual and physical violence. Further, his campaigns for Child Rights got the Liberian Parliament to adopt Children’s Law.
(iii) The International Peace Prize is an initiative of Marc Dullaert, Chairman and Founder of the Dutch KidsRights Foundation, and every year one child from across the world is awarded the prize in recognition of his/her contribution to children rights.
6. Amazon makes its debut on Reuters top 100 global innovators list
(i) Thomson Reuters recently released its top 100 global innovators list, which identifies innovators annually through an in-depth analysis based on a series of patent-related metrics that analyse what it means to be truly innovative.
(ii) This year 27 companies that are dropped from the list, including AT&T, IBM, Siemens and Xerox song others, however amazon.com made its debut.
(iii) As per the report, Amazon joins the innovators list for the first time for innovations in data centres, devices, electronic methods and systems.
7. Indian Football team defeats Guam in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
(i) On November 12, India recently won its first game in six of the FIFA World cup qualifiers, by defeating Guam in a 1-0 game that lasted for about 45 minutes.
(ii) India took the lead through an important goal made by Robin Singh in the 10th minute, as Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh launched a long goal-kick and found skipper Sunil Chetri open on the flank. Chetri cut into the box before relaying the ball to Robin.
(iii) Though, India is already out of the competition for a final berth at the 2018 World Cup but this victory has put the indian team in good stead to qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup.
