The NIRF has NIT Durgapur at position 29 in the Engineering division. The institution is one of eight colleges created as a result of cooperative projects between the governments of India and West Bengal. As part of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program, NIT Durgapur is the first institution in Eastern India to be chosen as the Lead Institute (TEQIP). For student exchange programs, internships, and workshops, the institute has 16 national and 17 international cooperation.
The institute now has 4000 students enrolled, 14 departments, 5 centers of excellence, 224 faculty members, and. Four BTech programs, 19 MTech programmes, three MSc programs, programs grams, one MBA programme, and one PhD programme are all available at NIT Durgapur. The two main programmes of the institute, with an emphasis on engineering, are BTech and MTech. While MTech admissions require GATE results, BTech admissions are based on JEE Main rank. For the BTech program, candidate program admission must achieve a JEE Main exam rank between 4400 and 40000. The ideal GATE score for the MTech programme is between 400 and 800.
Rankings for NIT Durgapur have significantly increased over time. Currently, the institute is ranked sixth overall among NITs. The institute had previously been placed eighth in 2020. In the Engineering category, the institute has also advanced. NIT Durgapur was ranked 47 in 2020 but is now placed 29 for the year 2021.
The highest CTC at NIT Durgapur has also increased in a similar manner. The CTC has increased to a maximum of INR 44 LPA in 2021 from INR 33 LPA in 2020. Placements for the class of 2021 are still being made; so far, 530 students have been assigned to the BTech program. The BTech's CSE and ECE branches have the highest placement rates of all the branches. The percentage of students placed is 95.24% and 82.05%, respectively.
