1. 
MNP deadline extended till July 3, 2015

i. The Department of Telecom has extended the deadline to fully implement the mobile number portability across the country by another two months till July 3, 2015.

ii. The earlier deadline to implement the full MNP was May 2, 2015.

iii. According to the official statement released by DOT, ‘”The Government has decided to extend the date of implementation of full MNP in the networks by two months,”.

2. Surender Singh is new Chief of CISF

i. A 1980-batch IPS officer, Surender Singh took over as the new chief of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

ii. He succeeds Arvind Ranjan who retired as the Director General of the CISF.

iii. He will have tenure till August next year.

3. India ranks at 13th spot in generation electricity from nuclear source

i. According to the data published by Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2014, India ranks at 13th position in the world in terms of generation electricity from nuclear source.

ii. India’s current installed nuclear power capacity is 5780 MW. It is expected to increase to 10080 MW by 2019 on progressive completion of projects.

4. IGI Airport is world’s best airport for 2014

i. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been adjudged the world’s best airport for the year 2014, under the category of handling 25 to 40 million passengers per annum.

ii. Airports Council International (ACI) presented the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award to IGIA at a ceremony of the ACI Asia-Pacific/World Annual General Assembly on April 28 in Jordan.

iii. The Delhi airport scored 4.90 on a scale of 5 points measured by 300 members of the ACI ASQ benchmarking programme. IGIA bettered its ranking from second position for the years 2011, 2012 and 2013 to emerge on top in 2014.

5. “Edge” Microsoft next Web Browser

i. Microsoft, has announced Edge as its next Web Browser’s
name at the Build Developer Conference held at San Francisco in California,
USA.

ii. The new browser will feature new inking function, which allows users to
draw or scribble directly on a Web page. It works with finger or stylus and
offers pen as well as highlighter with option to choose the color for it.

iii. The Edge browser will allow users to save pages for offline reading. The reading
lists thus created by a user will get synced to be accessed across multiple
devices.

iv. Earlier,
Microsoft had called it as Project Spartan; a code name given by the company.
The browser is intended to replace the Internet Explorer (IE) in future.
