Combined Medical Services Examination – Details of the Posts/Services offered

In our previous articles on the Combined Medical Services Examination, we have already looked at the plan and syllabus of this exam, among other things. In this article, let us take a more thorough look at the posts/services for which candidates are selected through this exam. 

The following is the list of posts covered through this exam:

Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in the Railways 

This is a Group A post. The pay structure for the post is Pay Band – 3 of Rs. 15600-39100 with Grade Pay Rs. 5400 plus non-practising allowance (NPA). The rate of non-practicing allowance at present is 25% of Basic Pay. Candidates would initially be on probation for a period of one year. On satisfactory completion of the probationary period, candidates may be made permanent in due course. The role and responsibilities of these officers primarily involve attending to indoor wards and outpatient departments daily as required. 

Assistant Medical Officer in Indian Ordnance Factories Health Services

These are Group A temporary posts but are likely to be made permanent in due course. The scale of pay is in Pay Band 3 – Rs. 15600-39100 with Grade Pay of Rs. 5400 and non-practising allowance (NPA). The non-practising allowance is 25% of the Basic Pay. Selected candidates would initially be on probation for a period of two years. On satisfactory completion of the probation, candidates can be made permanent. During service, candidates can be posted in any ordnance factory hospital or dispensary in the country. The role and responsibilities of candidates selected for these posts involve attending to emergencies, outpatients and inpatients, providing occupational health service, medical examination and general administration of the medical department.

3. Junior Scale Posts in Central Health Services

These are Group A temporary posts in Pay Band 3 – Rs 15600-39100 with Grade Pay of Rs. 5400 and non-practising allowance (NPA) of 25% of Basic Pay . Selected candidates would initially be on probation for a period of two years, after which the candidate’s service may be curtailed or extended at the discretion of the competent authority. Selected candidates can be posted anywhere in India in any dispensary or hospital under any organisation participating in the Central Health Service and are required to discharge duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary. 

4. General Duty Medical Officer- Gr-II in East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation

These are Group A, temporary posts which are likely to be made permanent in due course of time. The scale of pay is in Pay Band 3 – Rs. 15600-39100 with Grade Pay of Rs. 5400 plus non-practising allowance. Selected candidates would be on probation for a period of one year which may be curtailed or extended as may be deemed necessary by the competent authority. 

The prospects of promotion, including upward revision of pay scales and allowances, for these candidates shall be according to the respective service regulations.
