JEE Main 2015 Mathematics: Tips for preparation
The engineering entrance exams for 2015 are at your very doorstep and you are still left with so much work. What do you do in such a scenario?
In these last few days before the exams, planned study becomes most crucial. In this article, we present a few tips for the Mathematics section in order to help you prepare smartly for the test.
You cannot excel in Mathematics unless you practice solving sums by yourself. Mere reading of sums/formulae/methods will not suffice when it comes to maths. Maths is a subject which compels you to rack your brains, visualise things and think logically.
The following approach will help you prepare fully during these last few days before your exams:
Choose one topic every day and solve all kinds of sums from that topic. You will come across some peculiar sums. Note down the sum or its number for future reference.
Make a chart of all possible formulae and hang it at such a place in your room where you are always likely to look. Your self-made chart would help you to easily remember formulae.
While solving certain sums, you may come across some shortcuts which solve the sum in no time. Note down those shortcuts along with the sum.
Once you finish topic-wise studies, start solving past years’ question papers and mock papers. Now try to apply the shortcuts that you have newly learnt.
Do note that chapters like line, circle, ellipse, three dimensional geometry, straight lines, binomial series, sequences and series, etc. are formula based chapters. A little visualisation along with application of the correct formula is enough to solve questions from these chapters.
Similarly, derivatives and integration formulae should be at the tip of your tongue always.
Vectors, probability, matrices and determinants, integration, permutation & combination are among the most important chapters and you need to have good command over these chapters. Probability requires sound logical reasoning and decent command over English in order to understand the question. Many different kinds of sums are possible in probability. Do ensure that you are thorough with all of the common types of questions from probability. The Bayes’ theorem is important and should not be ignored. Limits is another important chapter. You must ensure that you know the properties of limits thoroughly in order to crack sums related to this topic.
In maths, the more you practice, the more confident you become. Avoid spending too much time on easy sums which you are already comfortable with. Spend more time practicing difficult problems. Practice a lot and avoid silly mistakes.
If you follow these steps, mathematics will become your strongest subject and you will score heavily in maths questions.
All the Best!
