NIT Warangal- City carved out of a single stone
National Institute of Technology, Warangal
Formerly known as the Regional Engineering
College, Warangal (RECW), it was renamed as the National Institute of
Technology, Warangal (NITW) in September, 2002.The institute’s foundation stone
was laid in 1959 by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The
first of all RECs, this institute started functioning in 1959 with Civil, Electrical and Mechanical
Engineering departments. In 2006, the institute started a Bachelors
program in Biotechnology. It is located in the newly formed state of
Telangana.
The campus is on 248 acres of land and has a
Central Library with state of the art facilities, an Auditorium, Student
Activity Centre, Mega Computer Centre, Indoor Games Complex, big stadium and
Seminar Halls. The campus has 16
residential hostel blocks including one mega & one ultra-mega hostel for
boys, two hostels for girls and one hostel for foreign students. It has
five messes for boys, one mess exclusively for girls and one mega mess open
to all.
Studying at NITW
The Institute currently has thirteen academic
departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of
engineering, pure sciences and management, with nearly a 100 laboratories. The
Institute offers eight undergraduate programmes (B.Tech.,) in engineering,
Twenty nine post graduate programmes (M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA and MBA) in
engineering, sciences and management and research programmes in engineering,
sciences, humanities, physical education and management. Continuing education
and Training programmes for teachers and industrial personnel.
Life beyond the classroom
Technozion is the three day
annual Technical Festival and SpringSpree
is a three day annual cultural festival generally held in March. Cura is fest organised by the School of
Management-NIT Warangal. Various clubs like the Science and Hobbies Club, Electronic
Amateurs and HAM Club, Nature Club, Value Education Club, Innovation &
Entrepreneurship Club, Film Committee, etc are on campus.
