93,985 seats vacant in MHT-CET 2016 after CAP Round IV
The Maharashtra Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has released the list of vacant seats after Central Admission Process (CAP) Round IV. The increase in number of vacant seats is more than what the authorities expected.
As reported earlier by PaGaLGuY, DTE was expecting about 40,000 seats to remain vacant. However, the list released today showed 93,985 seats vacant across the state. To begin with DTE had only 1.3 lakh seats to offer to the states’ 2.5 lakh engineering aspirants. So far DTE has filled only 28% seats after four CAP rounds.
As per the details released in the list, colleges with most number of vacant seats are based in Amravati. “Some colleges in remote areas are less desirable by students and hence, they always see a surplus in vacant seats. Students usually do not fill in these colleges in their option forms,” DS Meshram, Joint Director, DTE, mentioned earlier.
Another reason for this huge number of vacant seats could be the fact that DTE denied admissions to students after a major error from the CAP’s side, and asked students to re-fill their forms. Chances are that DTE might conduct a special round to allocate the vacant seats.
