All about AIMS and ATMA

AIMS is a networking organisation of B-Schools in India, like ACBSP, EFMD, AACSB. AIMS was established in 1988 (on August 27) and was registered as a society and is a non-profit professional organisation.

Individual B-Schools of national and international repute have become members of AIMS. ISB, IIMs, Xavier Institutes, Welingkar, NMIMS, ICFAI, MDI, S P Jain and other Management Institutes and Departments of Top Universities are its members. Today, AIMS can boast of a membership of about 600 and is growing stronger and stronger. It is one of the largest networking organisations of B-Schools in the world.

One of the core objectives of AIMS is its policy advocacy role in safeguarding the interests of B-schools in India and, therefore, it is officially represented in different bodies of Government of India connected with Management Education.

AIMS also represents Indian Management Schools in various International fora and AIMS had a strong presence at their annual events for the past several years and signed Reciprocal Membership Agreements with EFMD, ACBSP and AMDISA.

AIMS Test for Management Admission (ATMA)

The members of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) have for long felt the need for a high quality test, the scores of which can be used in their admission process, as a reliable predictor of academic performance in post-graduate management programmes. In response to this need, AIMS offers the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA), as a credible, comprehensive and single-window test for admissions to different postgraduate management programmes. The administration and scoring is professionally done, and the results obtained are item-analysed by a faculty team to ensure discriminating validity of the items, and of the test as a whole. ATMA scores supplied are highly dependable indicators of the candidates suitability for management education and career. The candidates will be supplied with the percentile scores in comprehension, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, analysing and synthesizing ability.

ATMA has been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for admission on All India Basis to the MBA / MMS / PGDM / PGDA and other Postgraduate Programmes like MCA.

The first Test was conducted on Sunday, February 20, 2000 and since then Fifteen tests have taken place, the last being on 20th February, 2011.

Now, AIMS has scheduled a Paper-Based Test (Sixteenth) on Sunday, 12th February, 2012 followed by Online Tests (tentatively) on April 29, June 24, July 29 and August 19, 2012.

ATMAs design is similar to that of Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). It is focussed on the student. ATMA does not require any specific prior knowledge of business or other subject areas nor does it seek to measure achievement in any particular subject area. ATMA makes the process of applying, registration, payments, grade cards and selection of center simpler and more efficient. Similarly, for Management Institutes, it makes the processes involved in admissions, including access to scores of students simpler and efficient. Therefore, quite a number of institutes accept ATMA scores.

ATMA Governance Process

ATMA Committee, comprising eminent academics and administrators, design, supervise and guide ATMA. Currently, Dr Apoorva Palkar (Director, Sinhghad Institute of Management and Computer Application) is the Chairperson, ATMA.

ATMA Test is held at 32 Cities and for a full list of cities, please visit www.atmaaims.com.
