An Introvert’s guide for survival in extroWorld

I call it extroWorld because introverts are a rare breed nowadays and the world is ruled by extroverts. So we need to survive in this extroWorld and here are a few guidelines that I have developed over the years.

1. To the point answers – A big NO!!

You may have been taught in school (atleast I was) to give to the point answers and not to beat around the bush. But practicals are always different from theory. So for example if anyone asks you after you watch a movie “How was the movie?” then if you give a one line answer like “It was good” then there can be different interpretations :

a. You did not understand the movie

b. You are in some kind of tension

c. You did not watch the movie (and may be was doing something else which you can’t tell!!)

etc etc…

So to survive such extuations (extrovert + situations) speak more passionately than the director of the film describing frame by frame the movie. I toh read the review before watching so that I am always prepared!!

So give answers to questions like you answered in your college exams when you knew nothing.

2. Move out of the zone called “Sensibility”

There is a fine line between sensibility and foolishness. You may be under the notion that staying away from such a line is the best thing. But sensible talks will never bring you the kind of fame that you will gain by flirting with that line.

So talk without thinking much but at certain intervals of time utter something sensible so that your sanity may not be questioned.

3. Don’t hate repeating things again and again and again and again….

Repetition is the key to Excess”. While talking to someone following thoughts should never occur in your mind:

a. things I am telling are obvious

b. listener probably knows what I am saying

c. I have already told the same thing to the same person

d. What I am telling was told by the person listening !!

So tell everything like you are telling it for the first time.

4. Keep making sounds to register your attentiveness

God gave us 5 senses but if you don’t make sound at short intervals of time then you are senseless!!

So keep handy a list of words that can be uttered anytime, anywhere…For example “Wowwww”, “Superrrr”, “Mastam”, “Hmmmm” etc etc. Usage of last one can be controversial so use it at your own risk!!

These can be used in extuations like:

1. When someone is performing if you watch silently to enjoy the performance then you are extrarded (a retarded extrovert).

2. When something is given to eat then trying to savour the taste without speaking would be a big mistake of your life and you may not get a chance to eat again!!

So remember that your sounds are like notification light on your mobile phone that tells that it is working fine.

5. Research and a well planned out strategy

You may think that when you meet a person for the first time then you will get to know that person and talks will build up on their own. But these are clear symptoms of introvertitis.

You should know everything about the person well before in hand and what all points will be touched upon should be carefully planned.

For example suppose you meet a distant relative of your spouse for the first time. Then you should be aware of his biodata, geographic conditions of his place of residence, what he likes or dislikes (they automatically should become yours also), about his relatives and distant relatives etc etc….

So when you meet a person for the first time then you should feel and also let the other person feel that there is a strong connection between you two since ages.

Now some quick tips

  • If a person speaks to you and you are not able to speak anything on the same topic then make up questions from what you hear and ask them like you are testing the other person. This way you would seem aware and also an active extrovert.
  • Be aware of latest sitcoms, movies, songs etc. These are the new worldly wisdom.
  • Facebook, twitter are as important as personal hygiene.
  • Never ever think you lack the talent of singing, dancing etc…Leave the judging to the audience
  • Never ever get tired. Its a battle out there and the last man standing wins.
  • Never let people know that you read this article otherwise your cover up may get busted!!
