Another NEET aspirant ends life in Kota

One more NEET aspirant, Mahima Yadav (17) of Revari, Haryana, ended her life in the coaching capital of India today (December 1, 2016). Mahima had arrived in Kota this year for coaching for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) from a coaching institute of Kota. She was studying in class 11th in a private school in Kota. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her rented accommodations in RK Puram area of the city in the morning today.

Her mother, Anju Yadav, who was living with Mahima and her two siblings in the house, saw Mahima hanging when Anju returned home after dropping the younger sister to school. The Father of the girl, Dharamveer, is a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. Since no suicide note has been recovered from the room of deceased student, the reasons for suicide are not clear. However, the police has hinted that study-related stress could be a cause.

The body of the deceased student was later handed over to the family after postmortem for cremation.

Mahima’s suicide has taken the student suicide toll to 16 in Kota this year. One IIT aspirant named Ashish Satyam had jumped into the Chambal river in Kota in November. Around 1.50 lakh students from all over the country come to Kota every year for coaching for the medical and engineering entrance exams. Some students fall prey to fear of failure and study stress. The Kota district administration, coaching institutes and other voluntary organizations have started initiatives to curb student suicides.
