B-schools in India: Going global, international accreditation

Change is perhaps the only unrestrained order on which enterprises thrive and prosper. It is change that drives innovation, proves leadership and enables growth. Slack, stale and static approaches do not have a place where dynamism and vibrancy are needed. Conventional approaches and adherence to traditions do not hold water in constantly volatile and turbulent scenarios.

Given these conditions, rightly, enterprises and corporates are constantly looking for such managerial human resources who are adept and yet adaptive. Indian b-schools are going global. Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has recognized 5 accreditation agencies, IACBE, AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS, ACBSP. The usual time taken by institutions to get accredited is 3 to 5 years and it helps an institution to improve while achieving the goals set during international accreditation. The idea of being accredited is driven by the mission statement of the institute and the philosophy of the accreditation agency. For ex. ISB, Hyderabad is accredited by AACSB which focuses on the intellectual research being done at the institution by faculty, research scholars and various other ways. Research builds the intellectual property for the institution and in turns quality of the teaching learning experience.

In India not more than 20 institutions would be accredited globally which includes The Indian Institutes of Management Ahmedabad and Bangalore, being recognized by EQUIS, MDI Gurgaon by AMBA. More than 100 institutes would have become institutional member of these bodies, however very few are moving forward with the accreditation process.

Similarly, Indus Business Academy (IBA), Bangalore has received candidacy status from IACBE which has a focus on excellent teaching. IBA, Bangalore is constantly striving towards excellence in every area be it student grooming in academics, team work, leadership & entrepreneurship and also faculty development & research.
