Dear Readers,
We bring to you this mini-series of articles on the BITSAT (BITS Admission Test) in order to
take care of your most common questions/queries about BITS campuses (Pilani, Goa and
Hyderabad). In these articles, we will talk about the campus, the details of the various streams
of engineering that the institute offers and also the cutoffs for admission to the different
engineering streams at that campus.
BITS Pilani: The BITS Pilani campus was established in 1964 and is a deemed university. The
institute emerged from The Birla Education Trust and was founded by Mr. G. D. Birla. BITS
Pilani is recognized by UGC and is accredited by NAAC. The institute is spread over a 328 acre

Model United Nations) and BOSM (BITS Pilani Open Sports Meet). The institute has also begun
“Vision 2020” with an aim to become one of the leading universities in the world.
BITS Pilani offers B.E. (Hons.) programs in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and
Instrumentation Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. BITS Pilani also
offers M.Sc. (Hons.) in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and
Finance. In addition, the college offers M.Sc. (Tech.) programs in Finance, Engineering
Technology, General Studies and Information Systems.
Overview of BITSAT:
The BITSAT is conducted every year for admission to B.E. (Engineering), B. Pharm., M.Sc.
(Hons.) and M.Sc. (Tech.) programs at various BITS campuses. This online test is conducted
for admissions to the prestigious BITS (Pilani), BITS (Goa) and BITS (Hyderabad) campuses.
BITSAT 2015 was held from 14th May to 29th May. Engineering aspirants taking the BITSAT
needed to answer a total of 150 questions (worth 450 marks) on Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics, English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning. The sections on Physics and
Chemistry consisted of 40 questions each while the section on Mathematics consisted of 45
questions. The exam also included 15 questions on English proficiency and 10 questions on
Logical Reasoning. BITSAT 2015 was conducted on the basis of class 11th and 12th NCERT
syllabus. The 180-minute examination consisted of multiple-choice questions only. Each correct
answer was worth 3 marks and there was a penalty of -1 mark for every wrong answer.
This year the admit list and the wait list announcement will be made on the 1st of July.
Meanwhile, you must be wondering about the likely cutoff marks (out of 450) for admissions to the different
