Candidates can Apply for Two Specialisations in SP Jain’s PGDM Program This Year

Admissions for the two-year PGDM program offered by SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) will open on September 13, 2013. This year applicants can opt for two specialisations among the four on offer. Until last year, candidates could only choose one option. This was confirmed by Atish Chattopadhyay, chairperson, PGDM.

Speaking about the change, Chattopadhyay said: “Our selection is based on specialisations. Each specialisation has a different process for selection. Students could opt for only option until last year. But what we found was that sometimes students who could not make make it in one specialisation had the necessary skill sets for the other one. But they could not opt for it. This year they can choose an option 1 and 2. If they cannot make it through the first option, they will get a shot at the second option. The result of the first option will have no bearing on the second one.”

Chattopadhyay also informed that there will be a reduced emphasis on the weights assigned to entrance exam scores to aid diversity in the institute. However, the cut-off will still be at 85 percentile.

Incidentally, SPJIMR has also started offering a consulting ‘minor’ specialisation alongwith the major ones this year. This year 27 second-year students have opted to specialise in this minor. Students will have to take 5 credits from this specialisation compulsorily, in addition to 7 general electives. “More such minors will be added in the future,” informed Chattopadhyay.
