The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a central board of examination that conducts the board exams for classes 10 and 12 every year. The upcoming CBSE 2020 board examinations are set to take place in the months of February and March. Students appearing for these examinations must be fully aware of the examination pattern and other such details.
While different students have a strong grip in different subjects, there are a lot of students who face difficulties in the subject of Science. Students often feel that the subject is quite complicated and can be difficult to score. However, with the right amount if preparation and hard work and a good understanding of the exam scheme, students can easily score high marks in the exam.
The CBSE Class 10 Science exam has a very simple pattern. It involves both theory and practical aspects. While the theory exam is of 80 marks, 20 marks are allotted for the practical exam. Thus, the total marks for the science exam add up to 100. The theory paper is divided into three sections for the science exam – Section A, Section B and Section C. Students are given a time limit of three hours in order to complete their paper.
The three sections comprise of 30 questions in all, all of which are compulsory. There are, however choices provided in each section of the paper. The type of questions that one will find in each section of the question paper is as follows –
- SECTION A – The questions in this section are highly objective. One mark is allotted for each question. Students will find three types of question here –
- Multiple choice questions
- Very Short Answer type questions
- Assertion-reason type questions
- SECTION B – This section poses questions of three marks each. In order to answer these questions, students are advised to write short and to the point answers. Not more than 50-60 words must be used.
- SECTION C – This section is the lengthy section. Every question here is allotted 5 marks, for which students need to answer in details. 80-90 words will be sufficient.
Here are some of the tips that students can incorporate in their preparation process in order to score high marks in their science exam –
- Follow the NCERT syllabus- There are high chances that questions will be asked from this syllabus as it is done every year. official website of CBSE, www.cbse.nic.in.
- Make regular notes- Writing down important points in a crisp manner comes in handy for quick revisions.
- Prepare the frequently repeated questions- The questions that are repeated every now and then are important ones and must be prepared properly in advance.
- Follow the sample papers- This will give you a clear idea about the paper pattern and the type of questions. It will also be helpful to use the sample papers for mock tests.
- Balance the preparation of every subject- All subjects must be given ample time to avoid lopsided preparation. It is not advised to only focus on one subject or to prepare all subjects at once.
