CBSE Class 10th Important Science Questions 2020

With the class 10th Board exams to be conducted by CBSE coming soon, students and their teachers have started their preparations in full swing. It is known that in order to score good marks in the board exams, students must be well acquainted with the subject matter and should have a good grasp on the concepts. Science is one such subject which requires students to have a strong understanding of the core concepts.

Q1. It is stated that light is not required for dark reaction of photosynthesis. Does that mean that plants undergo dark reaction during the night?

Answer.

The term dark reaction does not imply that the reaction occurs when the light is absent. As a matter of fact, this reaction occurs simultaneously with the light reaction. It a chemical process, based on enzymes, which is entirely independent of the presence or absence of light.

Q2. What is the difference between menarche and menopause?

Answer.

When the menstruation occurs for the first time in females at the age of 12 years, it is known as Menarche. This stage marks the commencement of the reproductive life of a female. While Menopause is a stage when a woman is no longer capable of bearing a child, usually after the age of 50 years. Menarche is the commencement of the reproductive life while Menopause is the ending of the reproductive life for a female.

Q3. “A concave mirror with a focal length 15 cm can form a magnified, erect as well as an inverted image when an object is placed in front of it.” Explain this statement in regard to the position of the object and pole of the mirror in both the situations.

Answer.

In order to take a magnified and erect image,  the object must be placed between pole P and focus F. Whereas, for taking an inverted or magnified image, the object must be placed either at the focus or anywhere between F and C.

Q4. List the four most important characteristics that define a good fuel.

Answer.

Four of the most important characteristics of good fuel can be described as: –

(i) Must have a low ignition temperature.

(ii) Should not leave any residue post-combustion i.e. it must burn entirely.

(iii) Should be available and accessible with relative ease

(iv) Should be easy to transport or store for long durations.
