CDS 2 2016: English Paper analysis, Answer key, Check here
The Combined Defence Service Exam (CDS) 2, 2016 was conducted on Sunday, October 23. The exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) consists of three papers of two hours each – English, General Knowledge and Mathematics. Each paper is of 100 marks. English paper was the conducted first among the three. The English paper had a total of 120 questions.

The total number of questions in English according to three sections- Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension is as follows:
Grammar* = 70 questions
Vocabulary = 30 questions
Comprehension = 20 questions
* Grammar includes sentence improvement, spotting errors, ordering of sentences and ordering of words.
Weight-age given to each section of English paper for past two years in CDS exam is indicated through the graph below.
Over the past two years, vocabulary based questions on Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion were given more importance. There was also a reduction in Grammar based questions such as Errors, Omissions etc.
But in CDS 2 2016, pattern of questions asked in English has been completely inverse. This time around, no question on Synonyms, Antonyms were asked. Grammar dominated the paper with almost 70 questions or 58 per cent question from this section. While the trend for Comprehension remains constant with an average of 20 questions for the section.
