Central Armed Police Forces – Details of the Posts/ Services offered

In the previous articles on the Central Armed Police Forces examination, we had discussed the pattern of the test and its syllabus, among other details. In this article, let us understand the posts/services that candidates selected through this exam would get.

The Central Armed Police Forces are five forces under the Authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Union of India. These forces are:

Border Security Force (BSF) – It is a border guarding force and is responsible for guarding India’s land border during peace time and for preventing trans-national crime.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) – The CRPF serves as an armed force of the Union of India with the aim of assisting the state/UT police forces in maintaining law and order and in containing insurgency.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – The CISF is a premier multi-skilled security agency which provides integrated security cover to critical infrastructure installations in the country.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) – The ITBP is a specialised mountain force responsible for guarding and manning border outposts on altitudes from 9000 – 18700 ft in the western, middle and eastern sector of the Indo-China Border.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) – The SSB is a border guarding, capability building and motivational force that operates along Indian borders.

Pay Scale

Candidates selected through the CAPF examination would come under Pay Band 3 – Rs. 15,600 – 39,100 with Rs. 5,400/- as grade pay.

Career Progression 

Candidates selected through this exam join their allotted force as Assistant Commandants.  With a good service record, such candidates can reach the ranks of Inspector General (IG) and Additional Director General (ADG) within their respective forces.
