Cricket bowls over students at MNIT, Jaipur

Cricket is the flavour of the season. So how could Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur stay untouched by the cricketing fever?

They don’t miss a chance to enjoy the game either as a spectator or as a player. Be it watching the matches in the common room or playing cricket in hostel compound, MNITians are game for it.

The ICC T20 World Cup got over but the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 9 has just begun. The fun doesn’t seem to get over, not any time soon. The students get their daily dose of entertainment by watching the cricket matches televised live on the idiot box. Many miss their classes and some miss their workout routines only to enjoy the matches in the common hall that is packed to capacity. The sweltering heat and humidity doesn’t bother them, after all it’s all about loving the game. When the Men in Blue were on the field, the scene in the common hall was electrifying. The students would greet a six or a four by their home team with a euphoric cheer. If they were the losing side, a hot debate quickly ensued to critically analyse and assess the situation. The common hall started looking like a TV studio.

Although I never watch matches in the common hall but prefer to enjoy the live match commentary on my laptop. However, I chose to be with my friends in the hostel and watched the IND vs PAK match, in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup, in the common hall.

A few of my friends and I have started playing cricket in our hostel compound. It has now become a part of our daily routine to complete the classes by 5p.m. and gather in the compound for a game of cricket. While a hit is cheered, a miss is jeered. So much and more, only for love of cricket.
