Cabinet approves International Solar Alliance (ISA): Signing of the Framework Agreement
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has given its ex-post facto approval to the proposal of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) for ratification of ISA’s Framework Agreement by India. ISA was launched jointly by the Prime Minister of India and the President of France on November 30, 2015, at Paris on the side-lines of the 21st CoP meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
- The ISA will strive to bring together more than 121 solar resource rich nations for coordinated research, low cost financing and rapid deployment. The foundation stone of the ISA Headquarters was laid at Gwal Pahari, Guragaon in Haryana.
Background
- The Agreement was opened for signature on the sidelines of 22nd CoP meeting at Marrakesh, Morocco. The Agreement invokes the Paris Declaration on ISA and encapsulates the vision of the prospective member nations. UNDP and World Bank have already announced their partnership with the ISA. Till now, 25 nations have signed the Framework Agreement.
Meghalaya to host National Games in 2022
- Meghalaya will host the 2022 national Games, which will coincide with the state’s 50 years of statehood. Meghalaya has pledged a sum of 5 crore rupees as a bid amount for the game.
- Meghalaya will become the third North-Eastern state to host the National Games.
- Manipur and Assam were the two nort-eastern states to host the national games.
- The 2015 National Games were held in Kerala.
Kerala to seek Union government’s approval for using deer antlers in Ayurveda medicines
- The Kerala Government is seeking the Union Government’s permission to use antlers of spotted deer and sambar to make Ayurvedic medicines.
- It is believed that antlers have medicinal values and are mainly used for invigorating spleen, strengthening bones/muscles and boosting blood flow.
- The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, has included antler in the definition of wildlife trophy that may be whole or any part of any captive animal or wild animal. Section 39 of the Act prohibits person from acquiring or keeping trophies in his possession without the previous permission of Chief Wildlife Warden or the authorised officer.
Rajasthani writer Satya Narayan chosen for 2016 Bihari Puraskar
- Eminent Rajasthani litterateur Dr Satya Narayan was chosen for the 26th Bihari Puraskar 2016 by the K K Birla Foundation. He was been chosen for his Hindi book titled Yeh Ek Dunia published in 2010.
- The award was instituted in 1991 by the K K Foundation. It is named after famous Hindi poet Bihari. It carries cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs, besides a citation and a plaque.
