Indian Blind cricket team lifts T20 World Cup 2017 defeating Pakistan

  • Emphatic victory of India in finals over Pakistan is significant as the visiting side was enjoying unbeatable record in the championship this year till their defeat in finals by India. 
  • India defeated the visitors with 9 wickets in hand and chasing a score of 200 in 17.4 overs in Bengaluru.
  • India had also defeated Pakistan in the finals of 2012 edition of the T20 World Cup.
  • So far, four Blind World Cups have been held, New Delhi, India (1998); Chennai, India (2002) and Islamabad, Pakistan (2006). In 2012, the first Blind World Cup T20 was held in Bangalore, India.

About Blind Cricket:

  • There are a total number of 11 players in the two teams playing the match.
  • Each team has four players who are totally blind, categorised under B1. Three players, partially blind, categorized under B2 and four players, partially sighted, categorized under B3.
How it’s played?
Ball (Auditory Ball) The ball used is significantly larger than the regular cricket ball and is filled with ball bearings that provide audible cues.
Stumps The stumps used are also much larger than regular cricket stumps. It made up of hollow metal pipes, it should have three tubular stumps that is either fluorescent orange or yellow and many more.

India Successfully Test Fires Exo-Atmospheric Interceptor Missile

INS Sarvekshak adapts Solar power system on board

  • The Indian Navy said the system, equipped on the ship, works on sunlight and hence is 100 per cent reliable for power source that can be used for communication equipment, battery charging and general lightings onboard round the clock with battery outputs during night.
  • The new system is “maintenance free” whereas the the diesel generator requires regular maintenance.
  • The Indian Navy can will save upto Rs 2.7 crore in 25 year even if the solar power system is used for 25 days in a year. The system can repay its cost in less than 10 years while protecting the nature, the Navy said. Navy claimed that by installing 5 KW solar power system, it avoids around 165 kg of carbon a day, 60,225 kg of carbon a year plus 22,995 litres of diesel.
