1. International Labour Day being celebrated today

i. International Labour Day is also known as the International Worker’s Day
and May Day which is celebrated on international level to promote and encourage
the international labour associations.

ii.
It is being celebrated all across the world every year on 1st of
May which has been declared as the traditional spring holiday in the Europe.

ii. The day is a celebration
of laborers and the working class that is promoted by the international labor
movement, socialists, and labour organisations to give a fresh call to labour
rights.

2. Fitch projected
GDP  growth for India at 8% for current
fiscal

i. International Credit rating agency Fitch has
projected India’s GDP growth rate will grow at 8% in this current fiscal year.

ii. India had previously been clubbed with
Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey for being the most at risk to
capital outflows following the US Federal Reserve’s proposed unwinding of the
monetary stimulus.

“India’s vulnerability has declined since
2013,” Fitch said in a report. “

3. Prannoy Roy conferred with RedInk Lifetime Achievement Award

i. Prannoy Roy, the executive co-chairman of
NDTV, was conferred the RedInk Award for lifetime achievement at a function in
Mumbai last evening.


ii.
Sreenivasan Jain of NDTV was presented ‘Journalist of the Year’
award. Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Times Now, was honoured with ‘Impact
Editor of the Year’ award. News website Scroll.in was given ‘the news start-up
of the year’ award.

iii. The awards were presented by the Union Railway Minister
Suresh Prabhu. Awards were also presented in the categories crime, politics,
courts, health, environment and science.

4. RBI restrict UCB to issue co-branded credit cards

i. Reserve Bank of India in its guidelines on
credit card operations said that urban cooperative banks (UCBs) are not allowed
to issue co-branded credit cards but they are permitted to issue general
purpose cards to their customers,

ii. The apex bank also said that the UCBs are
permitted to issue credit cards to their regular members and nominal members
only, but not to non-members.

iii. It said that the card issuing banks would be
solely responsible for fulfilment of all Know Your Customer requirements.

5. Kapil Dev Tripathi took over as the new Oil Secretary

i. Kapil Dev Tripathi, senior IAS officer today took over as the new Oil
Secretary, coming in at a time when the sector is witnessing a lot of churning.

ii. He replaced Saurabh Chandra.

iii. An officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre of 1980 batch, Tripathi after
assuming office this afternoon met senior ministry officials.

6. Telecom companies cut
roaming charges

i. Telecom companies, including
Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and RCom, slashed their roaming rates weeks after
regulator cut ceiling tariffs. The changes came into
effect from today.

ii. Now mobile users will pay less for roaming from today.

ii. While in roaming, call rates will be cheaper by up to 40 per cent and
SMS by up to 75 per cent.
iii. Telecom regulator TRAI on April 9 had
reduced ceiling tariffs for national roaming calls and SMSes and mandated
service providers to offer a special roaming tariff plan.

iv. The regulator cut the maximum or ceiling rate that a telecom operator
can charge for STD calls on roaming to Rs 1.15 per minute from Rs 1.50 per
minute. Similarly,
national SMS rate was reduced to 38 paise from Rs 1.50 per SMS.

v. Also,
an operator can charge a maximum 25 paise for each local SMS instead of Re 1
per SMS and a maximum 80 paise per minute for a local call instead of Re 1.
