1. Australia
won the world cup for the record fifth time.

i. Australia defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets
in the final and lifted the Cricket World Cup for the fifth time in Melbourne,
Australia.

ii. New Zealand players collapsed in front of
Australian bowler and set the score of only 183 runs for Australia.

iii. Australia easily chased the target by losing
3 wickets (186) in 33.1 over and won the world cup for the record fifth time.

iv. James Faulkner was adjudged man of the
match, while the man of the series award went to Mitchell Starc. He finished
the tournament with 22 wickets.

v. 
It was a perfect farewell for Clarke as he has now joined Allan Border,
Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh in the elite group of Australia’s World Cup
winning captains.

vi. Clarke dedicated the World Cup
to the late Phillip Hughes whose tragic death during a domestic game shook the
cricketing world.

vii. This was the Fifth Cricket World Cup for
Australian cricket team. Its previous wins came in the years 1987, 1999, 2003,
and 2007.

viii. With this win, Australia also became the
second host country to win the title. India in 2011 had become the first host
country to win the title.

2. Bharat Ratna
conferred posthumously on Madan Mohan Malviya

i. Noted educationist and freedom fighter Madan
Mohan Malviya posthumously conferred Bharat Ratna, country’s highest civilian
award, by President Pranab Mukherjee.

ii. His family
members received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee.
iii. Malaviya is the founder of Banaras
Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916.

iv. He remained the president of Indian National
Congress four time.
v. The credit for
popularising the slogan of Satyameva Jayate also goes to him.

3. Aditi Arya won the Miss India 2015 title

i. Aditi Arya won the Miss India 2015 title at
the 52nd edition of the beauty contest held at Yash Raj Studio in Mumbai.

ii. She was crowned with the title by Koyal Rana, Femina Miss India 2014.

iii. The first runner-up was Aafreen Rachel Vaz
of Mangaluru, Karnataka and the second runner-up was Vartika Singh of Lucknow,
Uttar Pradesh.

iv. As a result of securing the top three
spots, Aditi would represent India at Miss World2015,  Aafreen would participate at Miss International 2015,
while Vartika would take part at the Miss Grand International beauty
pageants.

4. Poonam
Mahajan becomes first woman president of BF

i. Poonam Mahajan was unanimously elected as
the President of Basketball Federation

ii. She became the first woman President of BF, since
it came into existence in 1950.

iii. The 34-year-old Poonam is the youngest
president of any national federation in India.

iv. In yet another first, another woman, Roopam
Harish Sharma – secretary of Delhi Basketball Association – was unanimously
elected as the Secretary General of the BFI.

5. Sebastian
Vettel wins the Malaysian Grand Prix 2015

i. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel won the
Malaysian Grand Prix 2015, as Lewis Hamilton came second and Nico Rosberg
finished third in spot.

ii. This was the 222nd win for Ferrari, who are
now 40 victories clear of McLaren at the top of the all-time team winners’
table.

6. Saina won India Open Super Series Badminton
Women’s title

i. Saina Nehwal, clinched her maiden India Open
Super Series title after notching up a dominating straight game victory against
former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.


ii.
She defeated by Intanon 21-16
21-14.

iii. Saina won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in
Lucknow in January, before becoming the first Indian woman to reach the final
of the All England Championships.

iv. She achieved her dream of
becoming the world number one after Carolina Marin lost in the semi-finals.

7. Srikant lift India Open Super Series
Badminton Men’s Singles title

i. K. Srikanth defeated Viktor
Axelsen of Denmark in three games 18-21, 21-13, 21-12 and won the India Open Super Series Badminton Men’s
Singles title.

ii. He won the second Super Series title of his
career.
