1. Pedro Cateriano appointed New PM of Peru

i. Peru’s President Ollanta Humala appointed Pedro Cateriano as the new Prime Minister of Peru.

ii. He replaced Ana Jara, who was sacked out of office by Congress earlier this week amid allegations of corruption.

iii. Cateriano, a 56-year-old lawyer, had been defense minister for almost three years.

iv. His predecessor, Jara, lost a confidence vote in Congress following allegations of spying on her opponents.

2. KN Tripathi takes additional charge as Mizoram Governor

i. West Bengal Governor takes additional charge as Mizoram Governor today.

ii. He replaced Aziz Qureshi, who was removed from the post by the govt. recently.

3. Rajani Ganesh-Pillai won Peltier Award

i. An Indian-American assistant professor, Rajani Ganesh-Pillai won the Peltier Award for her innovative teaching methods.

ii. She teaches marketing at the North Dakota State University.

iii. One of her innovative practices is a game called “Baffa Baffa,” where the goal is to have students understand culture’s role in business and how it can affect transactions and relationships.

iv. The Peltier Award was established by Joseph and Norma Peltier to honor innovation in teaching. The NDSU Development Foundation sponsors the awards.

4. Snapdeal acquired RupeePower

i. India’s largest online marketplace Snapdeal announced to acquire RupeePower, a leading digital financial products distribution platform, with an aim to launch financial service.

ii. Snapdeal will now offer consumers a financial services marketplace, a first of its kind initiative in the e-commerce industry.

iii. RupeePower will now join forces with Snapdeal in building a collaborative ecosystem to provide customers with a host of financial products.

5. Mariyam wins Bhagavad Gita contest

i. A class sixth student Mariyam Asif Siddiqui won the inter-school competition–Gita Champions League and proved that religion stands for unity not for division.

ii. She won the prize for explaining the teachings of the Bhagwad Gita. iii. Siddiqui who studies in Class 6 of Cosmopolitan High School at Mira Road near Mumbai won the contest from among 4500 students of 195 schools.

iv. Mariyam said she learned from Bhagwad Gita that humanity is the biggest religion in this world.

v. Shrimad Bhagwad Gita Champion League was organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in March 2015.

vi. The English version of the holy book was given to students for a month for preparation purpose for explaining the teachings of the holy book. The competition included recitation of the Gita in English along with a written test.

6. Li Xuerui won Malaysia Open Super Series Premier

i. Olympic champion Li Xuerui defeated Saina Nehwal and won the Malaysia Open Super Series Premier title.

ii. She defeated Saina in a straight set by 21-13, 17-21, 20-22.

7. Mountaineers Malli Mastan Babu found dead

i. Malli Mastan Babu, one of the top mountaineers of India has been found dead. He went missing after he went on a climb up the high mountains between Argentina and Chile.

ii. Malli Mastan Babu, was fastest to climb summits in all seven continents, went missing on 24th of last month.
iii. Earlier, helicopter teams from Argentina and Chile were searching the Andes Mountains for the missing Indian mountaineer.

iv. In 2006, Babu had scaled seven summits of
the world in 172 days. He hails from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.

8. Brendon McCullum
named New Zealand’s cricketer of the year award

i. New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has been awarded Sir Richard
Hadlee medal, the country’s highest cricketing honour, for his
inspirational leadership and exemplary batting at a glittering ceremony,
in Auckland.

ii. McCullum, 33, led the Kiwis to their first World Cup final where
they did lose to Australia by seven wickets at a packed MCG on March 29 but won
a million fans with their entertaining show throughout the 50-over
showpiece event.

iii. With 328 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 188.50, McCullum
led by example to be named captain of the ICC’s team of the tournament.
