1. Bhalchandra Nemade selected
for Jnanpith award 2014
i. Marathi
Litterateur Bhalachandra Nemade selected for the 50th Jnanpith award
for the year 2014.
ii. His mega novel ‘Hindu’, published
in 2010 have earned him a reputation as a self-aware, globally conscious and
alert writer. He is also known for his
great work Kosala (Cocoon) published in 1963, which creates his identity
as one of the most in the histories of Indian literature.
iii. Nemade is the fourth Marathi writer to win the literary honour after VS
Khandekar in 1974, VV Shirwadkar alias Kusumagraj in 1988, and Govind
Karandikar alias Vinda Karandikar in 2003.
About The Jnanpith Award
The
Jnanpith Award (also spelled as Gyanpeeth Award) is a literary award in India. It
is one of the most prestigious literary honours in India. The award was
instituted in 1961 and it is presented by the Bharatiya Jnanpith, a trust
founded by the Sahu Jain family, the publishers of the newspaper The Times of
India. Any Indian citizen who writes in any of the official languages of India
is eligible for the honour.
2. Tata Communications Ltd signed 20 million US dollars deal with KION
Group
i. Tata Communications Ltd on 6 February 2015 signed a 20
million US dollars multi-year deal with Germany-based KION Group to provide
global Wide Area Network (WAN) services to the 280 sites of KION across 30
countries.
3. Twitter join
hands with Google to make to display
tweets in search result
i. Twitter has signed a deal with Google
to display tweets in Google search
result, which will benefit both the companies.
ii. Under the deal,
Google will have complete access to tweets on the social networking site
Twitter. The deal will make tweets available outside the Twitter.
iii. With this deal peoples Tweets will visible in Google searches, which
will allow Twitter to reach people who do not use the social network.
iv. Google and Twitter had signed a similar search deal worked in 2009, but
the deal was ended in 2011.

American Ajaypal
Singh Banga appointed to a key administrative post in US
i. US president Barack Obama appointed Indian
CEO Ajaypal Singh Banga member of US Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and
Negotiation.
ii. He is currently working as President and CEO
of Master Card. He was awarded with Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2012.
5. Prasar Bharati
warned from sharing 2015 WC feed with cable operators
i. The Delhi High Court has banded Prasar
Bharati from sharing with cable operators through Doordarshan the live feed of
the upcoming Cricket World Cup, of which ESPN and Star have the exclusive
broadcasting rights.
ii. The court passed the order on the plea of
BCCI, ESPN and Star who had contended that cable TV operators were getting live
feeds through DD channels free of cost, resulting in loss of revenue for them.
iii. The court,
however, rejected the additional prayers of the petitioners to strike down
section 3 of the Sports Act, which makes it mandatory for them to share with
Prasar Bharati the live feed of sporting events of national importance.
