1. Two Ghats in Varanasi equipped with WiFi
facility

i. Under the Prime Minister’s dream of ‘Digital India’, Dashashwamedha and Sheetala the two main ghats of Ganga in Varanasi
(Uttar Pradesh) are now equipped with WiFi facility.

ii. Tourist visitors and people can now access
free WiFi connectivity in the surrounding area of around seven hundred metres.

iii. Union IT and Telecommunication Minister Ravi
Shankar Prasad said that eight more Ghats of the city will be equipped with
WiFi connectivity in the coming months, who launched Wifi facility in the two
ghats yesterday.


iv.
He also announced that Taj Mahal of Agra, Fatehpur
Sikri, Khajuraho, Konark, Hampi, Mahabalipuram and other famous tourist places
across India will be provided with WiFi facility in the near future.

2. Gulfood 2015, world’s largest food event kicks
off in Dubai

i. The world largest annual food and
hospitality event, Gulfood 2015 begins in Dubai’s World Trade Centre.

ii. More than 4, 800 international companies from
120 countries including India, eyeing to sell their products in the quickly
expanding Middle East Market.

iii. The four-day event will host a number of
international heads of state, ministers and government officials.

iv. Indian exporter will feature wide range of
products such as basmati rice to flour, meat, poultry and also plan to sell
traditional products like pickles, jams, papad which will be major part of attraction
in the event.

v. In the event experts will discuss concerns
related to food security across the globe.

3. Govt to invest Rs. 6,990 crore in nine public
sector banks

i. To boost capital and meeting global risk norms, Govt. will invest Rs. 6,990 crore in nine public
sector banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Punjab National Bank (PNB).

ii. This is the first tranche of capital
infusion for which the government had allocated Rs. 11,200 crore in the budget
for 2014-15.
iii. Among the beneficiaries, SBI leads the pack with a capitalization of Rs.
2,970 crore, followed by BoB Rs. 1,260, PNB Rs. 870 crore and Canara Bank Rs.
570 crore.

4. Pakistan may grant non-discriminatory market
access status to India

i. Pakistan has said that it may grant
non-discriminatory market access status to India and the two countries are
moving towards sealing a deal to liberalise trade.
ii. Pakistan Commerce Minister Khurram
Dastgir Khan told media persons in Islamabad that there is an incorrect
perception that Most Favoured Nation, MFN, means giving India extraordinary
market access. That is why, he said, it has been decided to replace MFN with
non-discriminatory market access status.                                                     

5. Goa ranks
6th in World’s best night life
cities

i. Goa has been positioned sixth in the list of
top 10 nightlife cities in the world by ‘National Geographic’.

ii. The list mentions Goa’s beaches and laid
back locales along its golden shores as the right place to be at and experience
all the fun which never stops even though there is restriction on all night
fests.

iii. DilipParulekar,
Goa tourism minister said “Goa is a safe destination for tourists 24×7 whether
on or off the beach.

iv. The list is
topped by Dublin (Ireland) and followed by Belgrade (Serbia).

v. National
Geographic’s ‘Top 10 Nightlife Cities’ are -Dublin in Ireland ranked first,
followed by Belgrade in Serbia, La Paz in Bolivia, Sao Paulo in Brazil, San Juan
in Puerto Rico, Goa In India, Ibiza in Spain, Houston in Texas, Thessaloniki in
Greece and Baku in Azerbaijan.

6. Dr Tony Tan, Singapore President arrived in
India

i. Singapore
President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam arrived in New Delhi this evening on a four-day
visit to India.
ii. During the visit Dr Yam will
meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

iii. Dr Yam will inaugurate the Peranakan
Exhibition at the National Museum on Tuesday.

7. Anirban
Lahiri clinches Malaysian Open title

i. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri defeated Austrian
Bernd Wiesberger in the final to won the maiden Malaysian Open title.

ii.  This is the
first European tour title of Anirban
Lahiri.
