1. Bangladesh knock-out England, enter into quarter – final of WC

i. Bangladesh made it to the quarter-final of
2015 ICC World Cup after defeating England by 15 runs in a Pool – A match
played in Adelaide, Australia today.

ii. New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka had already enters into the quarter –
finals from Pool – A.

iii. Mahmudullah crucial century helped
Bangladesh to set the target of 275/7 runs against England.

iv. Mahmudullah became the first Bangladesh batsman
to score a World Cup hundred.

v. Bangladesh will now clash with India in the
quarter finals of the mega event.

2. Haryana CM
launched “Aapki Beti Humari Beti” girl child scheme in the state

i. “Aapki Beti Humari Beti” a scheme for girl
child launched by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the state.

ii. The scheme was launched with an aim to combat
the problem of declining child sex ratio in the state.

iii. The scheme will be implemented in in both
rural and urban areas of the state covering first-born girl child of Scheduled
Caste (SC) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and all second girl child born
on or after January 22, 2015 of all families.

iv. Under this scheme, the first girl child
born on or after January 22, 2015, in SC and BPL families will be eligible to
receive Rs 21,000.

v. Similarly, all second girl child born on or
after January 22, 2015 of all families will get Rs 21,000. Families, where twin
girls or multiple girls are born, will get Rs 21,000 per girl child.

3. Eminent Journalist Vinod
Mehta passes away

i. The founder-Editor of
‘Outlook’ magazine and eminent
journalist Vinod Mehta passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 73.

ii.
He was born in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan) in 1942.

iii.
He was the Editor-in-Chief
of ‘Outlook’ magazine till February 2012.

iv. Prior to his
stint with ‘Outlook’, he had successfully launched ‘The Pioneer’ newspaper in
Delhi nearly three decades back.

4. Lalit Modi expel from Rajasthan Cricket
Association

i. Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi expelled as the Rajasthan Cricket
Association president.

ii. A no-confidence motion was passed against him by office bearers of the
rival Amin Pathan group in an Extraordinary General Body Meeting in Jaipur.

Exercise concluded

i. Joint military exercise between India
and Nepal concluded
in Salijhandi, Nepal.
ii. It also focussed on the basics of disaster management with
special reference to pandemic/epidemic control and aviation aspects.

iii. Over the years, the two
countries have decided to progressively increase the scope and content of the
combined exercise.

6. International Women’s Day observed on 8th March, 2015

i. International
Women’s Day observed around the world on 8th March, 2015 to celebrate the achievements of women while
calling for greater equality.

ii. The theme of the 2015 International Women’s Day is “Make It Happen”.

iii. Each
year International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first
International Women’s Day was held in 1911.

iv. Thousands
of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of
women. Organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s
groups, corporations and the media celebrate the day.

7. Saina Nehwal lose in the final of
All England Championship

i. Saina Nehwal defeated by Caroline
Marin with 21-16, 14-21, 7- 21 in the title clash of All England Championship held in
Birmingham.

ii. With
this win Caroline Marin became the first Spanish player to win the
Wimbledon of badminton, All England Championship title.

iii. Saina is now just one step
away from joining Indian legends Prakash Padukone (1980) and P Gopichand (2001)
who have bagged the prestigious title in the past.

8. Former Sri
Lanka captain Sangakkara announced retirement

i. Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakara has
announced his retirement from Test cricket on 8 March 2015 Sunday.

ii. He will retire after playing the three-match
Test series against India in August 2015.

iii. Sangakkara had already taken retirement from
One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty-20 cricket.
iv. He retired from Twenty-20
cricket format after Sri Lanka won the T20 World cup in 2014.

v. While, he had announced to retire from ODI
cricket format after the ongoing ICC World Cup 2015.
