1. Maithripala Sirisena is the  New President of Sri Lanka

i. Maithripala Sirisena won the 2015 Presidential
Elections and sworn in as the seventh President
of Sri Lanka.

ii. Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court Judge K. Sri Pawan
administered the Oath of Office to Mr. Sirisena at the Independence Square.

iii. He was the Health Minister in Rajapaksa government and senior member of the ruling
Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

2. Ranil Wickeramasinghe is the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka

i. Ranil
Wickeramasinghe today sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

ii. He will be the tenth Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

iii. He was Prime
Minister of Sri Lanka thrice,
from 7 May 1993 to 19 August 1994, from 9 December 2001 to 6 April 2004

3. Governor’s
Rule imposed in Jammu & Kashmir

i. Governor’s
rule was imposed in Jammu &
Kashmir today, after
political parties failed to assemble the necessary number in the 87-member
Assembly for staking claim to form the government.

ii. The judgment came after Governor N N Vohra
submited his report to President Pranab Mukherjee, stating that Omar Abdullah
had requested to be relieved of the post of being a caretaker Chief Minister.

Note: Governor’s
rule was imposed in the state under Section 92 of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution which allows the Governor to declare it in case of failure
of Constitutional machinery in the state.

ii. Governor’s
rule which has been imposed in the state for the sixth time since 1977.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          4. Dandi Kutir
Museum inaugurated in Gujarat

i. On the ocassion the 13th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art Dandi Kutir, a museum
on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhinagar.

ii. Dandi Kutir’ is located
inside a 41-metre high salt-mound as a symbol of Gandhi’s famous Dandi march
against the salt tax provisions imposed by the British regime in March 1930.

Note: The 13th
edition of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) is marking the 100th anniversary of
Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa.

5. Virat Kohli at No. 2 in ICC ODI ranking

i. According to latest ICC ODI ranking, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is
placed at no. 2 position.

ii. AB de Villiers is the top batsman in the latest ranking.

iii. Among the bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and
Ravindra Jadeja are the only two Indians within the top 10 ranking at the
eighth and ninth spot respectively. Sunil Narine top bowler in the
latest ranking.

Note: Australia is the top team in ICC ODI
ranking; India and South Africa are at the second and third spot respectively.

6. India to grant $ 60 million LoC to Guyana

i. India will offer
60 million dollars Line of Credit – LoC to Guyana for its road infrastructure
projects.

ii. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gave
the nod for LoC during the bilateral talks with Guyana President Donald R.
Ramotar on the sidelines of the 13th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in which Guyana
President has been invited as a chief guest.

7. 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas concludes today

i. Biggest
event of Indian Diaspora -three day 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas ended today
with Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari conferring the Pravasi Bharat Samman
Award.

ii. The Closing ceremony was held at Mahatma
Mandir in Gandhinagar where 15 persons were conferred with Pravasi Bharatiya
Samman Award including Microsoft CEO Satyanarayan Nadella and Guyana President
Donald Rabindernauth Ramaotar.
