Delhi University to offer five online courses

Delhi University has finally got permission from the University Grants Commission (UGC) that enables it to start offering its courses online. The permission has presently been given for five undergraduate courses, including Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), which will be made available for students globally from January 2020 onwards.

As per the latest reports, though 22 universities across India had submitted their proposal seeking permission from UGC to start offering their courses through online channels the approval was granted to only 4 out of these 22 universities. Now, these four universities, including Delhi University, now have the permission to start offering their undergraduate courses online.

The undergraduate programs for which the permission has been given are BA Programme, Political Science Hons, English Hons., B.Com, and B.Com Hons. All of these courses belong to the School of Open Learning (SOL), Delhi University.

As per the statement given by the Director of Campus of Open learning, from January 2020 these courses from School of Open Learning will be available online, and students from any country in the world can seek admission into these courses. More updates regarding this announcement will be announced on the official website of Delhi University, i.e. www.du.ac.in as the date of commencement nears.

How will student access the courses?

Delhi University will be setting up special websites to enable the students to access the course material without any problems. These special websites will allow the students to continue their studies from anywhere and at any time that they want. Some of the noteworthy features to be made available on these websites include live streaming of lectures, availability of e-books, and seamless access to study materials.

As per the latest guidelines from University Grants Commission, Delhi University has been directed to upload the e-study material by the end of November 2019. This is being done to ensure that the students have access to the study material well in advance before the actual course commences. All the information pertaining to these courses, study materials, and admissions is available on the official website of Delhi University.

Taking the concept of e-learning further, DU is also planning to conduct 30% of the examinations for these courses online. This will be achieved by developing an examination dashboard which will be integrated with the existing dashboard from where students will be able to access study material as well as get any information that they want. These examinations will be conducted in a phased manner.
