From Incredible Failure to Success

A few days back, I talked about my previous CAT failures.Today, I will try to finish it off by revealing exactly what happened.

So I was putting my details on CAT website and as soon as I put my details, my mind went completely blank because of sheer nervousness or excitement.

It took some time to regain my consciousness because I couldn’t believe whatever my eyes had just seen a few moments back. I refreshed the screen once again to verify and I realized that it was the same person whose percentile I just saw.

I got 98.47%ile with percentile breakup of 89.96%ile in one and 99.14%ile in other section. There was momentary joy but there was a dark lining to that silver cloud of happiness.

I will tell you about it in just a moment.

I was on cloud 9 and I informed all of my friends, relatives about it. It was a moment of happiness for me. Short-lived though.

The reason to say that is because I got calls only from 5 IIMs, and not from top tier IIMs, the reason was my bad score in graduation and lack of work experience.( I didn’t get calls from IIM-B, I & K ) and I also missed calls from all other institutes like SP-Jain, FMS, MDI etc etc because I hadn’t applied to them.

I was darn sure that I am not going to get calls from any of those institutes as I had studied only for the last week and I had wasted a lot of my money the previous year applying to those in vain.

So I was really going through a mixed set of emotions.

At one moment I was thinking of how I overcame all those challenges and at other moment I was thinking how stupid I am not to apply to any of those MBA colleges.

Now why I am sharing all these things.

Not to impress you but to impress upon you.Believe me I’m sharing it because I hope it’ll encourage you to press on and chase after your own dreams. I can’t begin to tell you the number of times I wanted to give up. The number of times I felt I wasn’t “cut out” for CAT thinking that I could never create the kind of success my peers had created.

I didn’t quit because I knew for me, “failure was not an option.” I did this not because I am more smarter, intelligent than anybody but I was willing to stay the course and continue to seek out answers.

Don’t quit. It’s worth it. Stay. You may very well be right there. In the toughest of times, that is when you hunker down and stay focused. Push through. Stick to your plan.

I will tell about my altogether different experience at GD/PI in the next article. Stay tuned.
