Himachal Pradesh is home to 20 engineering colleges under the ambit of the Directorate of Technical Education, Vocational & Industrial Training, Himachal Pradesh. Three of these are government-owned, while the remaining 17 colleges are privately-held and funded. The DTE is responsible for providing technical education, vocational & industrial training in the state at various levels.
Himachal Pradesh has several institutes of repute like IIT (Mandi), NIT (Hamirpur) and IIIT (Una), where the students are admitted based on their performance in the JEE.
Admissions to engineering colleges this year in Himachal Pradesh is based on JEE(Main) or the Himachal Pradesh Combined Entrance Test (HP-CET) conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HIMTU). While JEE (Main) 2016 will be the primary exam for admission, selections based on HP-CET 2016 ranks will be done only if seats remain vacant after two rounds of counselling through JEE (Main) 2016 ranks.
The JEE (Main) 2016 paper and pen mode exam has been scheduled for 03/04/2016 whereas the Online paper will be held on 09/04/2016 and 10/04/ 2016. This 3-hour objective paper will judge students on their knowledge in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The paper will have 90 questions carrying 360 marks. Every correct answer will earn you 4 marks, while 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
The HP-CET paper and pen mode exam will be held on 14/05/2016. The 3-hour exam will comprise of objective questions on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each section will have 50 questions for 100 marks, wherein a correct answer will get you 2 marks and each incorrect answer has a penalty of 0.5 mark.

The Green Hills Engineering College is based in Solan and is affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HIMTU), Hamirpur. It was establised in 2003 and is approved by AICTE, New Delhi.
The campus is spread over 40 acres of land and has all the necessary infrastructure like a library, hostels, healthcare and sports infrastructure. The institute also has state of art labs and workshops for the students. The college has a dedicated training & placement cell to guide students during internships and campus placements.
