Bank on Your Strengths
But don’t forget about the results. There will be certain questions which will test your knowledge or be out of your comfort zone. Do know what would get you the highest scores. You need to be ready to step out of that comfort zone at times when the stakes are high, as a comprehension passage on philosophy may actually have the easiest questions. Be sure to make use of such opportunities to score.
Get the Basics Right
The candidates that crack XAT usually have a strong understanding of the basics and know how to apply it tactically. Things like application of transitive verbs, infinitives, gerunds and participles, ratio and proportions, elementary maths, etc.
Focus on Efficiency
Keep track of time, but scan back and forth for areas of strength (this might seem like a waste of time, but those pesky ‘derailers’ could have been placed at the front and you may end up losing a lot more time).

Analyze
The mock tests are for you to analyze your weak points and work on them from there. Doing more tests wont magically resolve them if you are no looking into the problem area.
Revise What You Have Written
A large number of candidates forget to check if they have the correct data, correct markings etc on their test paper. Don’t lose out because of such simple mistakes. Be sure to check everything again.
Cracking the Essay
Even though it’s difficult to determine what’s looked for in XAT’s essay-based section, some fundamentals are important such as the consistency of your thoughts, your presentation, innovation, vocabulary, familiarity with a varying range subjects such as politics, culture, science, as well as current events. Of course grammar, punctuations and indentations in your essay are important too.
With a Little Help from Friends
Make sure you have the direction to work towards in your preparation. If you find that you are stuck or if you don’t know where to start be sure to get some outside help from coaching institutes or even your friends who are preparing for the test. The multitude of coaching centers have standardised tests that you can benchmark yourself with. This will help you in determining your performance and to look for areas that need improvement.
