How to prepare for CAT Exam in one month

The exam day is coming closer the students usually get more nervous as the day of the examination comes closer. During the last month, the candidate needs to work smartly and kept her calm. Here are some things listed below that will tell you what you should do in the last 30 days of CAT exam to score maximum marks possible by you. The hard work done by you in the past few months can go to waste if the last month is wasted by doing nothing important.

The candidate should go back to the basics and read over them carefully. Many times the students are so engrossed and used to solving hard questions that they forget their basic when the simple questions are asked. This usually breaks the proud stride of the students which should always be avoided especially when the exam is one month away.

The main key to performing great in an exam is practice. One needs to practice as many questions as possible and the best place to do that is on the mock tests and previous year question papers. Slice tenth grade everybody has told that the past year question papers are life saviours. If the past papers are unavailable which usually happens for computer-based exams, the mock tests play the same role. One needs to be used to answering on the screen and needs to know the basic pattern of the exam.

The candidates are advised to tackle one section at a time. For example, the candidate should solve the quantitative section questions only and then the verbal ability and then the other. This kind of practice will ensure that the candidate is improving at one section and is trying hard to at least score the maximum marks in one section. This will also ensure that the candidate’s mind does not wander off and worry about the other sections.

The aspirant should work harder on his or her strengths and excel in them. If the candidate knows that he or she is good at quantitative they should work harder on it and try and score maximum marks there. At least for the first fifteen days, the candidate should try and be the best at the topic they are good at.

The candidate should plan the whole paper and how they expect themselves to perform before the paper is shown. Knowing how much time to spend on the paper section wise helps the candidate in completing the paper on time. Many times the candidate is relaxed in the start of the paper and is very slow and by the end realizes that they do not have enough time to complete the questions and thus start working fast immediately which leads to foolish calculation mistakes or misread data.

The candidate should prepare a pattern according to their own speed and knowledge but here is a basic pattern to help with their own personalized pattern.

QA – solve in two rounds (35 minutes and 25 minutes)

DI – 30 minutes (7.5 minutes for each set)

LA – 30 minutes (7.5 minutes for each set)

RC – 45 minutes (8 minutes for each passage)

VA – 12-15 minutes (Doing all non-Para jumble questions)

Once the candidate has excelled in the strong points and is completely confident on his or her practice on those points the candidate is advised to tackle their weak point. Having a doubt or a weak section shows the lack of practice and thus a bad performance in the paper. The candidate should not take up any new topic but sharpen the ones he knows about briefly. Practising can make the weak sections one of the strong sections too.

The candidate should not be too nervous or scared a month before the exam. Being nervous usually reduces the ability to perform properly and thus is to be avoided at all costs. One month before the exam the candidate should be confident of their practice and knowledge and believe in themselves to perform well on the exam day. Staying calm helps them to see their strong and weak points and function as is required.
