IIT Roorkee senate readmits 18 expelled students
18 students from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R) who were expelled earlier this month have been readmitted. This decision was taken by the institute’s Senate yesterday, August 11. The meeting which was held yesterday, went on for about five hours starting at 4 pm last evening.
The students were initially expelled on account of low CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) in their first year exams. A similar incident occured in 2015, when 73 students were expelled from the institute and then re-admitted owing to the SC decision. According to the institute, during admissions, all students were informed that a CGPA of less than 5.0 would result in expulsion from the institute.
Prof Pramod Agarwal (Dean of Academic Affairs), says, “Students have been given a second chance and will have to repeat the first year of BTech with the required CGPA to continue studying in IIT Roorkee.”
