As of now, NITIE has five hostels that will also undergo renovation. “The 2012-2014 batch will be shifting to the new hostel,” said a student representative. The new hostel is expected to house 600-650 students and also have an improved wi-fi system. “We already had converted single rooms into double rooms as the 2011-12 batch increased by 38%,” she added.
“The academic block also a part of NITIE’s infrastructural expansion, will be a state-of-the-art building with high-tech facilities such as swipe-card entry for students and the faculty”, a student representative said. The three-floor academic block, which is expected to become operational along with the hostel, will include an auditorium with a capacity of around 400 students, a library, increased number of classrooms, lecture halls and faculty rooms among other things. “NITIE is also planning to construct a road circumventing the Vihar Lake in order to change the entrance,” he said.
As part of the IT infrastructure plan, the bandwidth has been raised from an approximate 100 Mbps to 155 Mbps and it might further go up to 1 Gbps. Upgradation of wi-fi services will take place both in the campus and in the new hostel.
An MBA programme in executive management is also in the pipeline. NITIE is looking at increasing its faculty strength from the current 45 to a sanctioned strength of 84. “The faculty expansion is being implemented to balance out the student-faculty ratio”, Ghosh said.
