The Joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as the JEE is an All India, national level examination for seeking admission into the undergraduate level courses in the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. The JEE exam is divided in two parts: JEE Main exam and JEE Advanced exam.
The JEE Main exam is a filter for scoring admissions into National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). After attempting JEE Main, if you clear the cut-off score for appearing in JEE Advanced, you’ll be eligible to appear for the same. JEE Main is conducted and regulated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Around 1.2 to 1.5 million candidates attempt for the JEE Main every year.
The JEE Advanced exam is for admissions into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is conducted by the IITs. The students who obtain marks greater than the decided JEE Main cut off marks are eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced examination. In the year 2017, the top 220,000 candidates from JEE Main were eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced.

- Organizing Institute –The JEE Advanced 2018 examination is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
- Examination Type –It is a National level examination
- Category –it is a Under Graduate exam
- Number of Applicants-About 2,24,000 candidates attempted the exam
- Mode of Examination-The exam was conducted in Online mode, it was a Computer Based Test
- Paper 1 and Paper 2-The examination comprises of Paper 1 and Paper 2. There is no specific pattern of these papers. Both the papers would carry questions from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The questions could be either single answer type, multiple answer type, passage-based type or integer type questions.
- Languages-For the convenience of the students, the JEE Advanced 2018 question papers will be available in 2 languages i.e. English and Hindi and the candidate can select their preferred language.
- Marking-There is a probability of negative marking in few questions. The candidates must read the instruction section provided in the question paper carefully before starting the exam.
- Number of Attempts-The candidate can attempt the JEE Advanced exam for a maximum of two times for two consecutive years.
- Absence-If a candidate is not present in any one examination, then he will be marked absent for both the examinations and their result will not be prepared.
- Foreign Students-Even the students with foreign nationalities can apply for JEE Advanced examination. Currently, the online forms are available for Foreign Nationals to apply for JEE Advanced.
- Defense Reservation-The candidates hailing from Defense Background, whose parents died or are permanently disabled during the war while serving for defense or paramilitary are provided special reservation category. All the candidates from defense background are not entitled to reservation.
- Class 12 performance-The candidate aspiring to qualify JEE Advanced examination must have scored a minimum of 75% marks from a reputed board. A relaxation of 5% is provided to the candidates of SC, ST categories and to PwD candidates.
- Age Limit-The aspirant should be born after October 1, 2018. A relaxation of 5 years is provided to the candidates of Reserved Category.
- Registration-The Online Registration for JEE Advanced 2018 begins on May 2, 2018 and ends on May 7, 2018. The last date for the payment of Online registration fees is May 8, 2018.
- Result-The results for JEE advanced 2018 are scheduled to be declared on June 10, 2018.
- Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT)- The Architecture programs are offered only by IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee. The AAT Registration for the academic year 2018 will begin from June 10, 2018 and the examination will be conducted on June 14, 2018. Their results will be declared on June 18, 2018.
- About 1,101 colleges all over India accept the JEE Main score.
- The government creates supernumerary seats for girls. Supernumerary seats are additional seat, apart from the existing ones therefore not affecting the general category boys.
