JEE Advanced paper 2015 difficult in parts, negative marking surprises

JEE Advanced- Paper 1

This year’s JEE Advanced paper was easy in the Physics and Chemistry part. Mathematics paper however was moderately difficult. The Chemistry paper was a bit different compared to last year as there were options for matrix match questions. The negative markings were allotted only for Part B (-2) and Part C (-1). The level of difficulty in the question paper of Physics and Chemistry was lower compared to the Mathematics paper which students felt tough.

Subject wise analysis-

Chemistry- The Chemistry paper was easier compared to the last year. There were 14 easy level questions, 4 moderate level and only 2 difficult questions. An average student can score between 50 and 55.

Physics-
The Physics paper was a moderately difficult section and was similar in the difficulty level as last year. There were 6 easy level questions, 11 moderate level and 3 difficult level questions. An average student can score anywhere between 40 and 45. This year, there were questions which had multiple correct answers as well as questions which had single correct answers.

Mathematics-
The Mathematics paper was slightly more difficult. There were only 2 easy level questions, 13 moderate level and 5 difficult level questions. The paper was time consuming as students had to solve questions which had more steps involved to arrive at the answer. An average student can score between 30 and 35.
Rahul Jana, student of Deeksha Network said, “The paper was moderate. I could complete the answers, but I felt the Mathematics paper tough. Physics and Chemistry was however manageable. I might be able to score above 100”.
“I had hardly any time for Mathematics paper. There were few complex questions in Physics and Chemistry which involved a lot of solving techniques. I might score around 110,”said, Manas Borah, student of Deeksha Network.

JEE Advanced- Paper 2

The JEE Advanced exam (Paper 2) threw a curve ball with another difficult Mathematics paper. The Physics section was moderately difficult while Chemistry was an easy section to attempt. This year the number of negative marking questions were more in the Physics section.

Subject wise analysis-

Physics-
The Physics paper was moderately difficult. There were 9 easy level questions, 6 medium level and 5 difficult level questions in the paper.

Chemistry-
The Chemistry paper was an easy level one. There were 14 easy level questions, 5 medium levels and only 1 difficult level question. The paper was similar in the difficulty level as the last year. The questions were however not direct.

Mathematics-
The Math paper was comparatively difficult. The questions were of the difficult level. There were 7 easy levels, 7 medium level and 6 difficult level questions. There were no questions out of the syllabus.

“The paper 2 was difficult, as Mathematics was too tricky and the levels of questions were too high. Study materials and reference books played a role little bit. But then, we had to be extra thorough for this paper,” said, Rahul Jana, Student of Deeksha Network
This year the mathematics paper in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 were difficult. But most students will manage a decent score if they have been through with their prep.
