JoSAA 2016: What does Freeze, Float, and Slide option mean?

JoSAA

With the release of JoSAA’s first round seat allotment list, the seat
acceptance process for engineering colleges through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)
Main and Advanced has begun.

Students should note that if the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA)
has allotted them a seat, they must report at the nearest reporting centre to
acknowledge the seat. If they fail to do so, JoSAA will not consider them in
subsequent rounds of seat allotment.

A
candidate can either retain the seat or opt for a change as per his/her
preferences. The three available options to do so are Freeze, Float, and Slide.

Freeze – Candidate is content with the allocated seat and pays the seat
acceptance fee. This candidate is not interested in participating in
further rounds of seat allotment and hence will not be considered in subsequent
rounds.

Float – Candidate accepts the allocated seat, but will wait if a
better seat (in any institute) of his/her preference is offered in
subsequent rounds. If not, the candidate can always go back to the previously
allotted seat.

Slide – Candidate accepts the seat but will wait if a better branch (in the
same institute
) of his/her preference is offered in subsequent rounds. If
not, the candidate can always go back to the previously allotted seat.
