It’s the admission season, and to
help students avoid getting duped by fraudulent institutions the Union HRD
minister, Smriti Irani advised students to check for information on the
KnowYourCollege portal created by the government.
This portal has every registered
college listed with details about the All India Survey on Higher Education
(AISHE) code. The survey covers all the Institutions in the country engaged in
imparting higher education as a part of the Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD) initiative. The code is an authentication of the MHRD
recognising the institute. In the previous year, close to 23 institutes were
declared ‘fake’ by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This move is
to ensure students don’t get lured by false information.
Smriti Irani further added that students should verify the college’s
identity and existence on the portal Know Your College. Also students are welcome to register any complaints or bring to the notice of MHRD if there
are any issues with the institutes listed.
