Welcome aboard, you are not alone! Many professionals and students face similar problems about not being able to manage time in a more profitable manner.

Time management needs individual efforts and commitment to transform; to change behavior and working habits. It involves training the body and mind through planning, setting priorities and devoting yourself to some unbending rules of discipline. The exercise of time management may have productive implications in a person’s individual and professional life.

Wasted time leads to loss of billions of dollars every year worldwide. It doesn’t appear to be a monstrous problem at most of the times, but the long run effects may be disastrous. Here are a few practical guidelines on how time management can be accomplished to bring out more productivity:

1. Manage your phone calls, e-mails and social media. Don’t let them manage you. It has been observed that most of us incessantly keep looking at our social media accounts like Facebook, WhatsApp and e-mails for latest notifications. Similarly, unplanned phone calls that are not important may consume a great deal of time. A habit of making these things more organized will be helpful.

2. Get rid of anything that may be deterrent in the way of productive activity. That may be a habit of watching long hours of television, sleeping more than required hours or staring at the sky without any value addition.

3. Every day, spend at least 20 minutes to plan your day ahead. Pre-determine how much time you want to allot to a particular task. Make a list of your priorities and work in that order.

4. Your actions reflect your thought process. Be selective about what you think, what you desire and what you want to achieve. To perform better, you should be able to challenge any kinds of habitual action that comes in the way of your time management.

5. Add a review slot into your monthly planner. Frequent evaluation helps in prioritizing tasks and also in adding value to anything that you deal in.

Time management allows you to condition your environment according to your requirement rather than letting the environment control you. Re-condition your activities according to your expectations, not depending on your comfort level. Using a system of “urgent-important” will help you to improve your time management skills. Make it happen, take your chances; don’t say- “I don’t have time to think about time management.”
