NEET 2017: J&K, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana medical aspirants relieved after CBSE notification

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has notified medical aspirants from Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, who have wrongly submitted the ‘undertaking’, that their candidature for 100% seats of their states will not be affected. The notification states that if they have signed the self-declaration and are from one of the three states, they will be eligible for the medical seats under the state.

Aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir were on a fix, as quite a lot of them had signed a declaration under which they confirmed that they are not from the respective state but are there because of their parents. Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the three states that had opted out from the 15% All India Quota seats and thus there is no option for the aspirants from these states to appear for the same. By the self-declaration, they would declare themselves not part of any of the three states and thus lose state quota seats as well.

The notification has clarified that ‘in no case, the candidature for aspirants from these states for 100% seats of their state will be affected’. Even if the candidates belong to some other state and are living at any of the three states presently, signing the self-declaration would not mean that they can not take part in the counselling in their state. Those who have submitted their information wrongly would have to register for counselling in their state whenever the registration begins by the state counselling authority.

The notification has also advised aspirants on filling up the application form keeping in mind certain guidelines:

  • State of Eligibility for 15% All India Quota field in the online application should be filled by the candidates with the state that they belong to (Even if they are from J&K, Andhra Pradesh or Telangana).
  • Those candidates who are from the three states will have to select ‘NO’ in the next window, “Self-Declaration upload as per rule”
  • Once they click the same, they would not have to further fill up the undertaking and can continue filling up the online form.
