National Institute of Technology, Raipur

Founded in 1956 as Govt. College of Mining & Metallurgy with two engineering disciplines, mining and metallurgy, the institute is one among the oldest of its kind in India. The National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur) is located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Dr. Rajendra Prasad the first President of India, laid the foundation stone of the college on 14 September 1956. Construction was completed in 1962 and the college was inaugurated on 14 March 1963. From 1st December 2005, the institute has become the National Institute of Technology.The campus is spread over an area of 100 acres. The campus is
a completely planned entity consisting of the main institute building, six
hostel blocks,
residential quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff, a bank, a separate
PWD and electricity office for campus maintenance. A dispensary and a welcoming
guest house are also on campus. The campus has got an additional facility of a
local railway station especially for the students of nearby areas. There are 35
lecture halls, 13 drawing halls and about 85 labs. The other amenities comprise
of a canteen, cycle stand, N.C.C, N.S.S department, a student activity centre,
co-operative store, and dispensary.

The institute has 5 boys and 1 girl’s hostels within the campus. The institute also manages one additional girls’ hostel adjacent to campus. A new girl’s hostel is under construction adjacent to existing girls’ hostel within the campus. A plan for construction of a new hostel block for boys is underway.

Life beyond the classroom

Eclectika is
the cultural cum technical festival organized annually. Other clubs exist on
campus like Raaga (Musical club), Click club (Photography club), Go Green
committee (We care the green movement), Sahyog (Mentorship club), Rajyabhasha
prabhag(under M.H.R.D) etc.

Placement History                                                                           

The 2013 batch of graduates saw nearly 480 students being
placed in various companies.
